Dhurries & kelims or kilims rugs made in India
are mostly in wool.
What are kelims/dhurries :
These are mostly flatwoven rugs, manufactured by hand,
mostly in India .
The trend of floor covering is changing from pile rugs to
flat-woven rugs, which are also called kelims/kilims or say dhurries too.
There are various designs and patterns developed in this kind,
earlier the designs were mostly very complicated in dull colours and style, but
now these are getting made more in contemporary and modern designs.
Types of dhurries-rugs :
These are made in wool, with cotton as warp and weft. There
are also jute kilims made which are with wool warp.
Transformation of different designs in dhurries or durries
are very common, one of the small example is plaid.. This was the design which
was used in fabric, but now these have also been transformed and flat woven
rugs are being made in these.
Another trend this time is using natural colour woolen yarns
in making natural look carpets. These are available in many shades, popularly
in brown, beige, silver and so on.
“One more thing is weaving of these kind of rugs, which
gives different look of designs. These rugs are also reversible rugs, mean that
you can use laying on both the sides, whichever side you wish to have, if one
side it is black and white, and when you turn, its white and black.”
These are mostly manufactured in India ,
all are handmade, with looms called PUNJA LOOMS. Earlier the looms were
straight on floors, but now the trend is also of straight looms like
hand-knotted, on which weavings are more fast.
